Date: Oct 18
Event: 4:00 pm Public Open House
Location: 150 Courthouse Drive
Teton County will hold a public open house on Thursday, October 18 at the Courthouse from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM to discuss the proposed “Short Plat Subdivision Process.”
Following six months of work sessions and a public hearing before the Planning & Zoning Commission, the proposed short plat subdivision process will be considered by the Board of County Commissioners. Before that meeting, Teton County wanted to hold an open house so people could learn more, and ask questions about the proposal in a more casual, discussion oriented format.
In summary, the proposed short plat process will allow a land-owner to subdivide a piece of land into 2,3, or 4 lots, as long as the lots meet underlying zoning, and are not located within any of the overlay areas. What makes the short plat different than a regular subdivision process, is that under a short plat process, the application would be considered in one hearing before the Planning and Zoning Commission and one hearing before the Board of County Commissioners. This is different than a regular subdivision process that requires up to two hearings before the Planning and Zoning Commission and two more hearings before the Board of County Commissioners prior to approval. This difference can reduce the process from typically taking 6-12 months, to 3-6 months.
The chart below shows the various methods for creating new lots/subdivisions in the County, and compares the Proposed Short Plat Process to the existing methods.
Anyone wanting to learn more about the proposed short plat process is welcome to come to the public open house, or to stop by the Planning Office anytime, where staff will be glad to answer any questions you might have.
