Seed saving is an ancient tradition going back nearly 12,000 years. It has transformed the human race and is a fundamental part of our story as a species. But it isn't difficult!


Extension Educator Jennifer Werlin and Horticulture/Small Farms Assistant Amelia Lohrenz will host a lightning-round, hands-on workshop covering the basics of saving seeds:

  • Selection/Genetics
  • Biology/Structure
  • Harvest/Cleaning/Storage
  • Wild Seed
  • History/Industry/Patents
  • Pollination/Breeding
  • Spirit of Seeds

The workshop will take place on Tuesday, October 4th from 9am-12pm at the new Teton Valley Community Garden. The garden is located just to the north of the fairgrounds building.

All are welcome. Participants may have the opportunity to take home some of the seeds processed during the workshop, and are encouraged to bring their own seeds to share.

Class fees are subsidized by USDA-NIFA Grant 2019-49400-30034; donations welcome ($10 suggested from public; free for Idaho Master Gardeners and Teton Valley Community Garden plot members). Please leave pets at home. Please register no later than October 2nd.
