Transfer Station Temporary Closure Update

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – September 15, 2021

Driggs, Idaho

Due to a fire on Monday September 13, 2021, the Teton County Transfer Station has been temporarily closed for repairs. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Nelson Engineering inspected the Transfer Building on September 15 and the Structural Engineer declared it safe to occupy.

The Transfer Station will open tomorrow, Thursday, September 16, for normal operations other than unsorted landfill bound material will not be accepted. Self haulers will be required to sort in order to reduce the load on the Transfer Building and uncompacted outgoing trucks.  All buildings except the Transfer Building now have power.  The Internet is currently not functioning, but the County IT department is working to repair it. Without internet service, only cash and checks can be accepted until further notice.

The metal structure will need to be cleaned and primed to prohibit rust.  The entire electrical system needs to be removed and replaced including wiring, conduit, communications, lighting, sensors, exhaust fans, overhead door openers, etc.  Translucent wall panels, weatherstriping, and all things plastic/rubber will need to be replaced.  This will likely be a lengthy process considering the limited availability of contractors and parts, but the County will do everything possible to keep things moving forward in a timely fashion.

Trash service provided through RAD Curbside will continue operating on a normal schedule. They will achieve this by hauling to the Madison County Transfer Station. For more information please visit

We apologize for the inconvenience of this unfortunate situation and thank you for your patience and understanding. Teton County is dedicated to repairing the Transfer Station and getting back to normal operations as soon as possible.
